Chuck Fry: Mountain Man gets Massage
Chuck Fry LOVES his bike! From his first 120 mile ride in 8th grade between San Diego and Covina, to more elaborate trips in the US and Europe. Last year he went to the Italian Alps (the Dolomites) to repeat some of the famed climbs of the Giro de Italia bike race. During this trip, he rode 70+ miles each day, 500 miles total, ascending over 50,000 feet!! He said the highlight of the trip “Has to be the Stelvio, a classic Giro climb. It’s 12 miles of scenic mountain roads, with an 8% grade, and 48 switchback turns.”
Chuck uses massage regularly to recover and remove toxins after his workouts. Sometimes his neck, back, hips and knees get sore. “Massage helps keep me fit to allow the pleasure of injury-free riding.”
He may ride hard, but Chuck listens carefully to his body’s signals. Months before his trip, he felt minor pressure in his chest when he was pedaling hard, so he went to his physician to check it out. It turned out he had a blockage in an artery of his heart, and required immediate angioplasty to install a stent to unblock it. But don’t worry, this hasn’t slowed him down at all. He still rides aggressively, takes his doctor’s advice, and encourages everyone to get regular checkups and listen to their body, too. He’s an inspiration to cyclists everywhere!
